Specialty

Medisaw

Medisaw (Purchased Referred Care program) is a referral-based program for the Chickasaw Nation Department of Health. Medisaw serves patients referred to specialty health care services not directly available at the Chickasaw Nation Department of Health.

Once a health care provider has determined a patient is in need of a specialty health care service currently not available as a direct service in the Chickasaw Nation Department of Health, the provider will place a Medisaw referral electronically.

If the patient lives inside the Ada Service unit, the referral is carefully reviewed and considered by the Medisaw Committee.

If the patient lives outside the Ada service unit, the referral is sent to the Purchase Referred Care office in their service unit for review and determination. Medisaw specialists are available to help guide patients to the appropriate service unit.

All bills received for an approved service must be submitted to the Medisaw office.

The patient is responsible for providing the referral and purchase order to the specialty care facility and all bills received for this approved service will need to be turned in to the Medisaw office.

Medisaw is dedicated to connecting patients with the specialty care they need. Unfortunately, there are some services unavailable through Medisaw. We are continuously working to add other approved services.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
  1. What medical services does Medisaw pay for?
    • Medisaw, according to federal guidelines, does not have a specific list of specialty services financially covered or not financially covered. Each patient referral is carefully reviewed and considered. Each eligibility guideline is addressed as the details of each referral arise with explanation.
  2. Why is a Medisaw referral not approved?
    • Medisaw will never state the medical service is not medically needed or indicated but there are Medisaw referrals for specialty services not financially covered due to Medisaw eligibility guidelines and federal regulations.
  3. How do I get scheduled for my approved referral?
    • A Medisaw specialist schedules approved referral appointments for patients. Someone from Medisaw or the referring specialty service provider’s office will contact the patient with schedule date/time.
  4. Do I need a new referral for each visit?
    • Yes, each approved Medisaw referral covers only one visit. Exceptions may apply. Please contact Medisaw for clarification.
  5. What do I do with the medical bills I receive from a physician’s office for an approved referral?
    • All medical bills received by a patient for an approved Medisaw referral service should be delivered or provided to the Medisaw office immediately.
